National Honor Society

  • The National Honor Society is an organization designed to recognize students demonstrating outstanding leadership, scholarship, character and service throughout the high school.

Members are selected during the second semester of their Junior year. Throughout their Senior year, members attend monthly meetings to sign up for volunteering opportunities both within the school and in the community. Examples of NHS volunteerism include working as tutors in the Student Success Center, acting as individual peer tutors, developing school spirit by participating in Trick-or-Treat fest and distributing candy canes of good will for the student body near the holidays, and numerous community events.  In March, the members will work together to host a community wide blood drive.  In April, the members help host Trivia Night and help induct the current juniors in to NHS.

Each meeting, the membership votes on a PHS senior to be honored as the senior of the month.  Since each meeting is at the beginning of the month, we look back at all the outstanding accomplishments that occurred the previous month by the senior class.  NHS members will proceed to nominate several seniors and then a vote takes place.
